The VLRA of 1967 is the one ACMAT is known for: 2.5 tonnes of payload, 1,600 km of range and a 200-litre water tank — a truck built for places with no fuel and no water rather than for armour. The VLRA 2 came in 2009, and the air-transportable light tactical vehicle served in Afghanistan between 2008 and 2019.
More than 12,000 ACMAT vehicles have been built, about 3,500 of them sharing parts closely, and over 85 per cent were exported to more than fifty countries; they serve in 42 nations, France and Ireland among them. The Bastion, in service since 2012, is a modular range of twelve-tonne armoured vehicles — the armoured end of a range whose other end is deliberately unarmoured.
