The French Army’s G-Wagen: the P4 of 1981–92, built under a 50-50 agreement with Mercedes-Benz — the G-Class chassis and body with Peugeot’s 504 petrol and, later, the 2.5 XD3 diesel — 13,500 ordered, about 6,000 assembled by Panhard from 1985, with the armoured P4P and the special-forces VPS, refurbished in the 2000s and replaced by the VT4 from 2018.
The Alsace conversions Peugeot sold as its own: Henri Dangel’s four-wheel-drive 504 pick-up and break from 1980, the 505 break of 1986 (more than 5,500) and the Partner, Expert and Boxer vans since the 1990s — more than 22,000 Peugeots, Citroëns and Fiats converted at Sentheim.
