Using the site

4x4s.org is free to use for personal, educational and non-commercial purposes. By using it you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. We may change these terms; the date at the top moves when we do.

Accuracy and no warranty

The registry is enthusiast research. Every record says how far it has been checked (draft, researched or verified) and cites its sources, but errors are certain in a body of work this size — see the FAQ. Nothing here is advice on buying, valuing, restoring or operating a vehicle. The site is provided as is, without warranty, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on it.

Trade marks and affiliation

Land Rover, Defender, Range Rover, Discovery, Series and related names, badges and vehicle designs are trade marks of Jaguar Land Rover Limited; Santana, Perentie, Camel Trophy, G4 Challenge and the names of other manufacturers, events, companies and organisations belong to their owners. They are used here only to identify the vehicles the records describe, as a reference work does. 4x4s.org is an independent enthusiast project with no affiliation to, and no endorsement from, any of them.

What you may copy

Research text (the written records, histories, expedition pages and maker pages) is © 4x4s.org and may be quoted with a link back; ask before reproducing whole pages. Structured data — the vehicle, maker, place and expedition data files — may be reused for non-commercial purposes with attribution. AI rendering impressions may be reused with a link back and kept labelled as impressions. Photographs belong to their photographers and archives: each is shown under the licence named in its caption, and those terms apply. Equipment pages show product imagery under the licence stated on each page.

AI usage

We use AI in two ways, and say so wherever it appears. Research assistance: parts of the registry's research are found and drafted with the help of AI models, then reviewed, checked against sources and cited by hand; the citations on each record are what the claims rest on. Rendering impressions: some vehicles are pictured by an image model painting a 3D model of the vehicle into a scene; every such picture is labelled, is never used as evidence, and can drift from the real vehicle in its details.

Your contributions

By sending a correction, a suggestion or an image you confirm you have the right to share it and give 4x4s.org a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use it in the registry with a credit where one is given. Photographs are published only under a free licence you name, or with your written permission recorded on the page.

Takedown and corrections

If you own the rights to something reproduced here, are pictured or named in a way you object to, or think a record about your vehicle or organisation is wrong, use the contact form or Submit a correction on the page, giving the page address and what you would like changed. Copyright complaints should identify the work and your rights in it; we act promptly.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Queensland, Australia, without affecting any consumer rights you have where you live.
