Mowag has built specialised vehicles at Kreuzlingen since 1950: more than 1,600 T1 troop carriers for the Swiss Army, about 750 MR 8 armoured cars for the West German border guard from 1959, the Bucher-Guyer-developed Duro in Swiss service since 1994 and now over 4,000 strong, the Eagle protected patrol vehicle with 3,721 ordered by Germany alone, and the Piranha of 1972 — more than 12,000 built including the licensed LAV, Bison, ASLAV and Stryker.
The two vehicles that made the company: more than 1,600 T1 4×4 troop carriers for the Swiss Army in the 1950s, and about 750 MR 8 armoured cars for the West German Bundesgrenzschutz from 1959.
Developed by Bucher-Guyer AG at Niederweningen from 1976, in Swiss service from 1994 after an order for 3,000, and built at Kreuzlingen since January 2003. Over 4,000 Duro 4×4 and 6×6 are in service worldwide.
A Swiss protected body, first on the Humvee chassis and from the Eagle IV on Mowag’s own Duro: 3,721 ordered by Germany, 556 by Switzerland, 219 by Denmark and 84 by Luxembourg.
In production since 1972 in 4×4, 6×6, 8×8 and 10×10 across five generations, and more than 12,000 built including the licensed LAV, Bison, ASLAV and Stryker: 275 hp, 100 km/h on the road, 10 km/h in the water, 780 km of range.
