Morris Commercial built the most distinctive shape in British four-wheel-drive history: the beetle-backed C8 “Quad” field artillery tractor, about 10,000 of them between October 1939 and 1945, which towed the 25-pounder through the Western Desert and Normandy. Before it came the six-wheeled CDSW, a 6×4 whose name spells out its own specification, and after it the post-war MRA/1 one-tonner.

About 10,000 built between October 1939 and 1945: 4.489 m long and 3.3 long tons, with a 3.5-litre Morris EH four of 70 bhp, 50 mph and 160 miles, carrying a driver and five men, 24 boxed rounds of 25-pounder ammunition and at least eight boxed anti-tank shells.
The six-wheeled artillery tractor that came before the Quad — model C, Double axle rear, Six-cylinder engine, Winch — and the post-war MRA/1 one-tonner that came after it.
