The first Dacia Duster was an ARO: the 10 Series, built at Câmpulung Muscel and sold in Britain under the Dacia badge from 1984 to 1993, a hard-top, pick-up or Roadster with selectable four-wheel drive and a transfer case, priced well under a Land Rover. Dacia's own Duster arrived in 2010 as a front-drive SUV with four-wheel drive as an option. The 4×4 uses Nissan's ALL MODE system — 2WD, Auto and Lock — with a short first gear in place of a reduction box, and the same layout carried through the second generation of 2017 and, as Terrain Control, the third of 2024, which added an electric rear axle in 2025. More than 2 million Dusters had been built by early 2022; how many were 4×4s is not published. Only the four-wheel-drive versions are in the registry.
