The four-wheel-drive versions of the first Dacia Duster (HS), built at Mioveni from 2010. The drive system is Nissan's ALL MODE: a driver-selected 2WD position, an Auto mode in which an electromagnetic coupling sends torque to the rear axle when the front wheels slip, and a Lock mode for low speeds. There is no low-range transfer case; the six-speed TL8 gearbox has a short first gear instead.

The record
Dacia showed the Duster as an Andros Trophy ice racer in November 2009 and launched the production car in March 2010, on the 2,673 mm wheelbase it would keep for two generations. Four-wheel drive was an option on the 1.6-litre petrol and the 1.5 dCi diesels, and on the 2.0-litre petrol in markets that took it; the 4×4 has 210 mm of ground clearance and approach and departure angles of 30 and 36 degrees. The TL8 gearbox, with a first gear of 5.79 km/h per 1,000 rpm in place of a reduction box, was made at the Piteşti plant. A facelift followed at the Frankfurt show in September 2013. Outside Europe the same car was built as the Renault Duster in Brazil, Colombia, Russia, India and Indonesia, and as the Nissan Terrano for the CIS and India. Only the four-wheel-drive versions are in the registry.
