The Light Dragon carried a gun crew and towed a light field gun. The early marks used Vickers light-tank running gear and, from the Mark II, a 4.5-litre Meadows six; the Mark III was rebuilt on the VA D50's suspension, with tracks that shifted sideways to steer.
The British Army bought 69 Mark IIIs and then turned to wheeled gun tractors. Belgium ordered 21 or 23 of Vickers-Carden-Loyd's 1934 tractor, an unarmoured tracked light truck, for the Chasseurs Ardennais' Bofors mountain guns.
