Nir Kahn drew the SandCat in 2004 around a four-man crew and about four tonnes gross; early trials pushed it to five. It was shown at AUSA in October 2005 under the name Caracal, and was the SandCat by Eurosatory in 2006. The first cars were Ford F350s shortened to a 2,946 mm wheelbase, and F450s.

From 2008 the F550 became the usual chassis, the gross weight rose to 8,845 kg and Plasan fitted its own coil-spring and trailing-arm rear suspension; from 2011 the third generation was sold as the Stormer, facelifted in 2014 to a harder shape. The fourth generation of 2018 runs the 6.7-litre Power Stroke V8 of 330 hp, does 110 km/h and 500 to 550 km, and comes as Troop Carrier, Utility or Single Cab, with a monocoque M-LPV option.
