Four-wheel drive came to Chevrolet trucks through NAPCO of Minneapolis, whose Powr-Pak was sold through dealers from 1955 and factory-fitted from 1957; the 1960 C/K series gave the four-wheel drive its own K prefix and Chevrolet hardware, and the K10 and K20 have been built in every generation since — 1967, 1973, 1988 and the Silverado of 1999, 2007, 2014 and 2019.

The trims tell the story: Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super of 1971–75, Silverado from 1975 until it became the truck’s name, the Z71 off-road package from 1988, the Trail Boss of 2019 and the ZR2 of 2022. The Army’s M1008 and M1010 CUCVs of 1983–87 were square-body K30s with the 6.2 diesel.
