Chevrolet K-series and Silverado chassis numbers

Chevrolet trucks carried a plant serial from 1960 with the series (K10/K20/K1405…), the model year and a sequence; a thirteen-digit VIN from 1972 (series, body, engine, year, plant, sequence); and the seventeen-digit VIN from 1981 with a Chevrolet truck WMI (1GC for Chevrolet trucks, 1GN for Chevrolet MPVs such as the Blazer, Tahoe and Suburban, 2GC/2GN for Canada, 3GC/3GN for Mexico) and the letter K in the model code for four-wheel drive. Where to find it

The VIN plate on the driver’s door pillar (to 1967 on the door hinge pillar), on the dash at the base of the windscreen from 1968, and stamped on the frame; the service parts identification label with the RPO codes (Z71, ZR2, G80) on the glovebox door.
