UAZ put a cab-over body on the GAZ-69’s four-wheel-drive chassis in 1958 for the army’s ambulance and van requirement; the 452 of 1965 redesigned it around the UMZ engine and a 2,300 mm wheelbase and gave the Soviet Union its rural ambulance (452A, “Tabletka”), farm truck (452D, “Golovastik”) and works minibus (452V).
The 1985 renumbering (2206 minibus, 3741 van, 3303 truck, 3909 combi, 3962 ambulance) changed nothing structural; fuel injection, ABS and a five-speed gearbox came in the 2000s and 2010s. The Bukhanka remains the vehicle of Russian district hospitals, the post, the army and the hunting and expedition trade, and is exported to Cuba, Mongolia, Vietnam and Latin America.
