Toyota showed the FJ Cruiser as a concept at Detroit in 2003 and built it from 2006 at Hamura, Japan, on the 120 Series Prado frame with the 4Runner’s 1GR-FE V6. The white roof, wrap-round rear glass, round headlamps and TOYOTA grille lettering were taken from the FJ40; rear-hinged half doors and a rear locker were the practical parts.
The FJ Cruiser sold in North America until 2014 and in Australia from 2011 to 2016; production for the Middle East ended in 2023 with a Final Edition. It is the only Land Cruiser to have been styled as an homage to another.
Launch and the Trail Teams editions (2006–2010)
