The Volyn was built for country roads that were not roads: collective farms, foresters, rural doctors. It is tiny, high off the ground and almost impossible to stop.
Its name changed more often than its shape — ZAZ-969 from 1966, LuAZ-969 from 1971, 969A from 1975, 969M from 1979, LuAZ-1302 from 1992 — and production ran to 2002. The works built its 100,000th car in 1982 and its best year was 1990 at 16,500. Italy was the strongest export market, where Martorelli also sold it with a Ford engine.
