The Taft of August 1974 was a Jimny-sized ladder-frame 4x4 with leaf springs and a two-speed transfer case, built at Ikeda for farmers, foresters and export; the Toyota 12R engine of 1977, the 2.5 and 2.8 diesels and the Toyota Blizzard rebadge came from the Toyota tie of 1967.

The Rugger of April 1984 replaced it; the Taft name lived on in Indonesia on the Rugger to 2007 and returned in 2020 on a kei crossover outside the registry.
