Sixty-four pre-production M3s came first; the M3A1 that followed weighed 5.67 tonnes and carried a driver, a commander and six more. The M2 before it had 94 hp; the JXD gave 110.
Of 11,401 allocated to Lend-Lease, 6,987 went to the British Commonwealth, 3,310 to the Soviet Union and 104 to the Chinese Nationalist Army, with more to the Free Belgian, Free French, Czechoslovak and Polish forces. After the war many went to Asia and Latin America; France used them in Indochina and Algeria, Israel in 1948, and Madagascar was reported still to have them in 2024.
