Oshkosh won the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement in 1998 with the TAK-4 independent suspension that has defined its trucks since; the MTVR entered Marine service in July 2001 and carried the Corps through Iraq and Afghanistan with armoured cabs from 2005.
The FMTV was Stewart & Stevenson’s design of 1996, passed to Armor Holdings and BAE Systems; Oshkosh took the A1P2 rebuy in August 2009, built from 2010 and won the A2 in 2018, so the Army’s 2.5-ton and 5-ton trucks are Oshkosh-built for their second half-life.
