The Marine Corps’ medium truck: the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement, a 7-ton 6x6 with the Caterpillar C-12 (425 hp), the Allison HD 4070P seven-speed and Oshkosh’s TAK-4 independent coil suspension, 11,359 built for the Marines and Navy from 1999 (in service July 2001; 10,000th in May 2008), with the MK23/MK25 cargo, MK27/MK28 extended, MK29/MK30 dump, MK31 tractor and MK36 wrecker bodies; the UK took 357 from 2003 and Greece 73.

The record

Oshkosh won the MTVR contract in 1998 to replace the M809 and M939 five-ton trucks of the Marines; the first trucks arrived in late 1999 and the type went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan with armoured cabs and the MAS armour system fitted from 2005. The Navy Seabees, the UK (as the MTVR for the Royal Marines and support units), Greece and Iraq run it; a HIMARS resupply and an armoured-cab MK23A1 followed.
