Nissan Terrano, Pathfinder and Xterra

The station-wagon Nissans with low-range gearing: the Terrano (WD21) of 1986 and its North American Pathfinder twin, the Spanish-built Terrano II of 1993 (sold as the European Ford Maverick), the Pathfinder R50 of 1995, and the Xterra of 1999–2015 with its PRO-4X locker and Bilstein package.

The Terrano put a wagon body on the Hardbody’s frame in 1986 and became the Pathfinder in North America; Nissan Motor Ibérica built the Terrano II at Barcelona from 1993, and Ford sold it as its European Maverick while it had no 4x4 of its own.

The Xterra of 1999 was the American branch of the same idea — cheap, boxy, ladder-framed, with a locking rear differential on the PRO-4X — and ran to 2015. The Pathfinder kept a low range until the R51; the 2012 crossover that took the name is outside the registry.
