TPK stands for transporter of the front line, and the design follows from that literally. It carries ammunition forward and wounded back; its hull is watertight so it can swim; it is light enough to drop by parachute; and its controls and windscreen fold flat so the driver can get out, lie down beside it and steer it from the ground with his head below the bodywork.
Nothing else in the registry was designed to be driven prone. The engine is the ZAZ car's air-cooled V4, which needs no radiator to freeze or be shot through, and the gearbox has a separately engaged crawler. A six-wheeled Geolog was built for survey work.
