The Pig was a 1950s design that found its war twenty years later. It went to the Royal Ulster Constabulary in late 1958 and became the most recognisable British vehicle of the Northern Ireland troubles once the Mk 2 rearmouring of the 1970s had added protection and heavy bull bars for breaching barricades.
Local conversions followed as the threats changed: the Flying Pig with hinged riot screens, the Kremlin Pig with wire screening against rocket-propelled grenades, the Foaming Pig with a blast-diffusing foam system. British service ran into the early 1990s. Humber built them with Joseph Sankey & Sons of GKN and the Royal Ordnance Factories.
