Guy Quad-Ant field artillery tractor (1938–1944)

In 1937 the War Department asked for a short four-wheel-drive tractor with a winch to take over from the Light Dragon and the six-wheeled Morris CDSW. Guy built its design quickly from components of the 15-cwt Ant; Morris followed with the C8, and the two shared the sloped, beetle-backed body shape; the Morris-Commercial tractor became the more numerous of the two, at about 10,000.

Two prototypes were ordered in December 1937, one with a Meadows petrol engine and one with a Gardner diesel. The first production order, for 444, followed in November 1938, and tractors reached units from August 1939. When the tractor went out of production in 1943, its components went into a four-wheel-drive 15-cwt GS truck and a 6-pounder anti-tank tractor.

The Quad-Ant towed the 25-pounder, 18-pounder, 18/25-pounder and 17-pounder with the BEF in France and in North Africa. A forward-control version carried a generator for anti-aircraft searchlights.
