It was the only small Citroën built with four-wheel drive, on the Ami Super floorpan with disc brakes all round, the spare wheel in a recess in the bonnet and steel bull bars; it would climb a 60 per cent slope.
The French Army, which had bought 7,064 two-wheel-drive Méharis, was the intended customer but was not interested, and at about twice the price of the standard car the 4x4 sold in small numbers to private buyers.
