The ATMP carries two crew and up to eight troops on a Volkswagen ADE 1.9 turbo-diesel of 78 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 164 N·m at 1,850, and does 64 km/h. Its ground pressure is low enough for soft sand and it swims.
That is the whole argument for it: airborne and air-mobile troops get mobility the moment they are on the ground rather than after a convoy reaches them. The British Army has used it since 1988; Canada, Malaysia and Mexico have taken it too, and it is now in its fourth generation.
