The VM 90 gave the Italian Army a light truck between the jeep and the two-tonner, and its licence versions served Canada, Pakistan and Egypt; the armoured VM 90P was criticised for thin protection.

The LMV of 2001 was designed around mine protection from the start and became the standard European protected patrol vehicle of the 2000s, in Iraq and Afghanistan with a dozen armies; the LMV 2 followed in 2017.
