The French Army tested Kégresse tracks from 1921 and gave the half-track its first light-tractor prize at Satory in October 1923. Poland bought about 135 chassis in 1924 and armoured 90 as the wz. 28; sixteen M23 armoured cars reached the French cavalry in January 1925 and fourteen served in Syria and Lebanon until 1941. The P17 became the artillery’s light tractor — 1,442 were in service in 1939 — with the six-cylinder P14 and P19 beside it; Belgium adopted the P14 and P19 in 1931 and built 130 FN-Kégresse tractors, and Poland took about a hundred P14s, P17s and P19s in 1931–33.

The armoured half-tracks were less successful: the Schneider-built AMC P16, 100 made, and the P28 AMR, withdrawn to training within a year. In 1940 the Germans took captured half-tracks into service as the Ci 301 (f), Ci 306 (f), Ci 380 (f) and U 304 (f). After the war the Guardia Civil patrolled in 80 2CV Saharas, and from 1962 the Type 46 FOM lorry served French forces overseas and the armies of the Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Mauritania, Senegal and Chad.
