Working Fords

Before Ford built its own, Marmon-Herrington Ford conversions worked the oil fields of Texas and Oklahoma, the utility lines and the ranches of the West; the factory F-100 and F-250 4x4 of 1959 took over that work and the F-Series 4x4 has been the truck of American ranches, county road crews, utilities, forest and park services and volunteer fire departments ever since, with brush-fire bodies on the F-350 and Super Duty. The Bronco served the US Forest Service, the Border Patrol, park rangers and rural sheriffs from 1966 to 1996.

The Explorer became the police department’s SUV in the 1990s and the Police Interceptor Utility of 2013 (a unibody, outside this registry) its successor; the Expedition and Excursion served as command and transport vehicles. Abroad, the T6 Ranger of 2011 is the pick-up of Australian mines and farms, of African and South-East Asian fleets and of the United Nations and aid agencies, and the Everest their wagon; Ford Australia’s Maverick worked the outback in the early 1990s.
