The three-quarter and one-ton F-Series with four-wheel drive: the F-250 4x4 from 1959, the raised-chassis “Highboy” of 1967–77, the F-350 4x4 from 1979 and the Super Duty line since 1999, on a solid front axle throughout; the vehicles of American ranches, utilities, fire departments and the military’s commercial fleets.

The record
The F-250 4x4 of 1959–77 sat high on a divorced transfer case (the Highboy); the 1977½ Lowboy dropped it, and the F-350 gained four-wheel drive in 1979. Unlike the F-150 the heavy trucks kept a solid Dana front axle through the Twin-Traction Beam years and into the Super Duty of 1999, with the 7.3 Power Stroke diesel from 1994 and the 6.7 from 2011. The Tremor package of 2020 and the Super Duty’s 2023 redesign continue the line.
