The Vickers carriers were built to carry and to tow. The Light Dragon and the Belgian tractor of 1934 pulled field and mountain guns; the Carden-Loyd towed light guns and carried a mortar; the Cavalry carrier took six men and the observation post a wireless.
The Universal Carrier combined those jobs in one hull, and the Windsor carrier of 1944 was lengthened by 76 cm specifically for towing trailers and 6-pounder anti-tank guns.
