Canada's carriers were built to the British pattern as the Carrier, Universal No. 3 Mark I* and Mark II*, with detail differences. They served with Canadian and other Commonwealth units; 57 on their way to the Canadian garrison in Hong Kong were in the Philippines when Japan invaded and 40 of them were taken over by the US 1st Provisional Tank Group. 213 Canadian carriers were fitted with 2-pounder guns for training.
