The first recorded government user was the Department of the Environment's Building Research Establishment, which took a V6 4x4 fitted with a Drillmaster 18 rotary drill for foundation experiments in 1978. Users included Scottish utility companies and airport fire services; a P5000 6x4 bodied by Carmichael of Worcester served as the crash tender on the beach airfield at Barra and is preserved at the National Museum of Flight, East Fortune.

Under Gomba, a 1981 P5000 4x4 was run by Avon Constabulary. In 1993 the Samuelson film and television transport fleet at Pinewood kept a Stonefield six-wheeler for rough-terrain location work; it was the only vehicle to reach a snowbound Poirot location in the Derbyshire Dales.
