Gomba Motors, part of Jersey-based Gomba Holdings headed by Abdul Shamji, renamed the lorry the Gomba-Stonefield, restarted Cumnock with 50 employees and aimed its first 20 vehicles at a Gomba construction company in Nigeria, with a first-year target of 100 sales. Hansard records that the Malaysian order Stonefield had pursued was won by Gomba-Stonefield. After a dispute with the Scottish Development Agency over axle and transfer-box supplies, Gomba moved production to its Trans-Ax factory at Strood, near Rochester, in late 1983. In July 1984 it announced its first diesel option, a Deutz V8 of 160 bhp. A 1981 Gomba-Stonefield P5000 4x4, EHY 509W, was run by Avon Constabulary. The business closed in the early 1990s.
