India’s armed forces and police have bought Mahindra’s Jeep derivatives since the 1960s: the MM 540 and 550 as light vehicles, radio cars and patrol vehicles, in numbers that made Mahindra a defence supplier as well as a civilian maker.
The company now builds armoured and specialist vehicles alongside the Scorpio and Thar, which serve as light vehicles with the army, the Border Security Force and the state police.
