Cushman's June 1970 dealer newsletter reported that recreational buyers made up about half of early Trackster sales, followed by electric utilities, government, ranching and university users; the 1969 flyer aimed it at sportsmen, conservationists, miners and geophysical explorers. The watertight hull, with the flotation ring or as the marsh model, let it cross streams and ponds.
Under Textron the Cushman name moved to diesel and petrol four-wheel-drive utility vehicles for golf courses, rental fleets, construction sites and municipal parks. The first 1600XD-R in the United Kingdom, homologated as a tractor for road use, was delivered to Lichfield District Council in 2013.
