Textron announced the 1600XD at Augusta, Georgia on 9 February 2011, for delivery from April 2011. It has a 22 hp, 1,007 cc three-cylinder OHV diesel, an automatic continuously variable transmission with high and low ranges, selectable four-wheel drive, a locking rear differential usable in two- and four-wheel drive, independent suspension on all four wheels and a maximum vehicle load of 1,600 lb, from which the name is taken. A four-seat version, the 1600XD4, followed in 2014, and a road-homologated European version, the 1600XD-R, in 2013. The engine's maker is not named in the release.
