A vehicle that floats on its tyres and climbs out of water onto ice answers a narrow problem very well: reaching things in swamp, tundra and broken ice where a tracked machine would sink or tear the ground up. Ultra-low-pressure tyres leave a light footprint, which is part of the argument for using them in protected country.
The Ark carries the idea to crew and cargo scale — 7,500 lb or 22 people — and the N 1200 adapts it for the Arctic, insulated and with protective bars over the windows against polar bears.
