Dodge’s ¾-ton trucks were the American army’s workhorse a size above the jeep: the WC-51 and WC-52 weapons carriers, the WC-54 ambulance, the WC-56 command car and the WC-62 and WC-63 six-wheelers, built through the war and sent abroad in thousands under Lend-Lease.
The M37 replaced them in 1951 and served two wars with the US and Canadian forces; when it wore out the Army bought commercial W200s as the M880 in 1976 rather than design a new truck, the same reasoning that produced the Chevrolet CUCVs of 1983.
