History

Ford lost the 1941 standardised-Jeep contract to Willys but was brought in for volume, building the GPW at Dearborn, Louisville, Dallas, Richmond and Chester with F-stamped parts and the Go Devil engine under licence; the GPA of 1942–43 was Ford’s own amphibious version. Ford of Canada at Windsor, Ontario assembled the M38 CDN and M38A1 CDN for the Canadian Army from 1952. Ford’s own four-wheel drives (the Bronco, the F-Series) are outside this registry.
