Australia's welded Universal Carrier: about 4,800 carriers were built between 1941 and 1943 in four states by railway workshops, a gas company, Ford and a state engineering works.

The record
The LP2 used Ford commercial axles of 1938–39 and the LP2A Ford truck axles of 1940; engines were imported Fords. South Australian Railways' Islington Workshops alone built 1,560 from December 1940 and supplied parts for 5,583 more, alongside Victorian Railways' Newport Workshops, the Metropolitan Gas Company's Fitzroy works, Ford at Homebush and, from 1943, the State Engineering Works at North Fremantle. Australian carriers served as command vehicles with the 9th Divisional Cavalry Regiment in Egypt in 1942, and 1,500 went to China during the war.
