History
Kaiser Motors bought Willys-Overland in 1953 and ran it as Willys Motors from Toledo, launching the CJ-5 from the M38A1 in 1954 and the Forward Control in 1957. Renamed Kaiser Jeep in 1963, the company launched the Wagoneer and Gladiator that year with the overhead-cam Tornado six, added the Buick Dauntless V6 to the CJ-5 in 1965, built the M715 for the Army from 1967 and assembled Jeeps abroad through licensees. American Motors bought Kaiser Jeep in February 1970 for about $70 million.
