Toyota Auto Body (Arakawa Auto Body / Araco)

The body builder and assembler of the Land Cruiser: Arakawa Auto Body made the BJ and 20, 40 and 55 Series bodies, became Araco in 1988 and merged into Toyota Auto Body in 2004, which builds the 70 Series at Yoshiwara, the 200 and 300 at Yoshiwara and Inabe, and runs the Dakar production-class team.

History

Arakawa Sheet Metal Industry, founded in 1945 and reorganised as Arakawa Auto Body in 1947, built the bodies of the Toyota Jeep BJ and the Land Cruiser from the 20 Series on at its Toyota City works. Renamed Araco in 1988, it merged into Toyota Auto Body in 2004. Toyota Auto Body, itself founded in 1945 at Kariya, built the 4Runner and Hilux Surf and now assembles the 70 Series at Yoshiwara and the 200 and 300 Series; Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body has entered the Dakar Rally since 1995 and won its production class every year from 2014 to 2021.
