Toyota fitted the B-series diesel to the 40 in 1974 for markets taxed or priced on fuel: the BJ40 with the 3.0-litre B, the BJ42 with the 3.4-litre 3B from 1980, and the BJ43 and BJ46 on the medium wheelbase. They were the best-selling 40s in Europe and the Bandeirante used the same layout with a Mercedes diesel.
