Méhari 4x4 (1979–83)

The Méhari 4x4 would climb a 60 per cent slope. The French Army, its intended buyer, had taken 7,064 two-wheel-drive Méharis but showed no interest, and at about twice the price of the standard car it sold only to private buyers. It carried its spare wheel in a recess in the bonnet, steel bull bars at both ends and, from 1982, flared wheel arches. Its colour was moulded into the plastic body.

The game model represents an early narrow-arch civilian 4x4 with cream bodywork, half-doors, open cab windows and a dark glazed rear canvas canopy, both tubular guards. Shared air-cooled twin audio is used. The club specification gives a 2,400 mm wheelbase, 1,530 mm width, 1,635 mm height, 3,720 mm overall length and 720 kg unladen mass; game handling values are approximations. Source captions document private examples in France; populated country fields are retained. The cream rendering and rear canvas configuration follow the user-supplied reference photographs; the rendered cream is an approximation, not a measured historical colour chip. The user subsequently requested removal of the bonnet spare: the game representation has a closed ribbed bonnet, although the historical 4x4 description and original photographs retain their bonnet-spare references.
