A mine-protected personnel carrier on the SAMIL 20 chassis, laid out like the Buffel but with its armoured driver's cab on the right: 7.58 tonnes, 5.34 m long, a driver and ten men. It was adopted by the South African Air Force for airfield patrols.
Project Sireb, launched in 1981, produced three mine-protected prototypes on the SAMIL 20 chassis as possible replacements for the Buffel, each with a full-length protected hull and higher, stronger suspension than the truck. None proved much better than the Buffel, and the Army did not adopt one, but the Air Force took the Bulldog to patrol its bases. Production is reported as starting in 1982 by some publications and 1985 by others. The Bulldog was the basis of the Ystervark anti-aircraft gun and, with the driver moved inside the hull, of the Rhino.
