The Portuguese metalworks founded in 1977 to build four-wheel drives under the Cournil licence; it sold 12,166 between 1979 and 1989 and built the Alter and Alter II until series production ended in 1994.

History

UMM bought the rights to the Cournil outside France in 1977, part of the Mocar group (the Peugeot importer), and built it as the UMM 4x4 from 1979, followed by the Alter of 1985, the Alter II of 1986 and the Alter 2000 of 1998–2004. Its vehicles went to the Portuguese Army and GNR, the Dutch and Angolan armies and fire services and utilities in Portugal and France. It withdrew from vehicle building in 2006 and continues in industrial subcontracting.
