The record
Ordered in 1956 and prototyped in 1961, the 469 replaced the GAZ-69 in production at Ulyanovsk in 1971 with a five-door canvas-topped body, a rigid frame and, on the military version, portal axles with reduction gears in the hubs. The 469B civilian version of 1973 used plain axles and 220 mm of clearance. The 469 equipped the Soviet and Warsaw Pact armies and more than 80 countries, and was redesignated 3151 in 1985.
