The 80 Series replaced the 60 in 1990 with a new chassis whose coil-sprung beam axles set the pattern for the 100 and 200. Optional front and rear differential locks and the 24-valve 1FZ-FE made it the reference expedition wagon; the Lexus LX 450 (1996–97) was a badge-engineered version for the United States.
