The second Pinzgauer: the 716 (4x4) and 718 (6x6) of 1986–2000 with the Volkswagen 2.4-litre turbo-diesel six (later the 2.5 TDI), an automatic gearbox option, a longer bonnet and the same backbone, portal-axle layout, built at Graz for the Austrian, Swiss, British, Saudi and other armies until Automotive Technik took the line to England.

The record

Development began in 1980 and production in 1986; the diesel six and a ZF automatic modernised the truck, and the British Army bought it from the 1990s as a gun tractor for the 105 mm Light Gun and an ambulance. Steyr-Daimler-Puch ended Graz production in 2000 when Magna took over the vehicle business.
