History

AM General inherited Kaiser Jeep’s military contracts at South Bend in 1971 and built the M151A2, the M718A1 ambulance and the 2½ and 5-ton trucks; it won the HMMWV contract in 1983 and has built the Humvee at Mishawaka since 1985. Sold by AMC in 1983, it passed through LTV, Renco and MacAndrews & Forbes to KPS Capital in 2020.
