The GMT400 K-series of 1988–2000: an aerodynamic body, independent torsion-bar front suspension on the 4x4 (a first for a full-size Chevrolet), the 4.3 V6, 5.0, 5.7 and 7.4 V8s and the 6.5 turbo-diesel, the Z71 off-road package from 1988 and the Silverado trim; the Tahoe and Suburban of 1992–95 shared it.

The record

The GMT400 replaced the square body from 1988 (the heavy trucks in 1989–92) with the Vortec engines, the Z71 package of Bilstein dampers and skid plates, and from 1995 the third door; the Silverado name became the truck’s own with the GMT800 of 1999, and the GMT400 ended in 2000 as the Classic.
